Coghlan Lake is located 60 air miles north of Whitehorse in Canada’s Yukon. Coghlan Lake is 7 miles long and three-quarters of a mile wide and has the clearest water in the Yukon. Your fishing lure may be visible as much as 40 feet below the surface. There are many shoals and islands throughout Coghlan Lake.
Coghlan Lake produces Lake Trout and Northern Pike up to 30 pounds, Arctic Grayling up to 4 pounds, Burbot up to 15 pounds and Lake Whitefish to 12 pounds.
A medium weight 6 to 7 weight rod is best for the Trout, Whitefish and Northern Pike, while you will want to bring a mini-spin or 3 to 4 weight fly outfit for the Grayling.
Coghlan Lake Fishing Lodge is a three bedroom house lying deep in the Yukon wilderness. The lodge is most comfortable with six people or three couples as there are three bedrooms with two beds each. It is also possible, however, to sleep three couples plus up to six children. The downstairs floor is a classic log cabin with a rustic living room area plus dining and kitchen areas. Camp Attendant in Residence
Coghlan Lake Lodge comes with a caretaker-handyman who lives in a separate cabin nearby to ensure you of a trouble free fly fishing vacation. His main duty is to do everything he can to make your Canada fishing trip as enjoyable as possible WITHOUT interfering with your party’s freedom to enjoy the wilderness at your own pace. He will look after the electrical, propane, water and toilet systems; operate the tractor, keep the boats clean and gassed, etc. He will also act as a temporary fishing guide for one day if needed to orient newcomers to the lake and fishing methods.
“Bernard – I called a few of the guys from the Coghlan trip and got an estimated number of each species. Grayling- well over 500- I got the largest, 50 cm, weight? – Hot lure for me was 1/8 oz. cast master, fluorescing red. Northern Pike, about 100 or so at the far end of lake, Frank boated one 90 cm, 13 lbs. (not every one fished for pike) Lake Trout -Estimated at between 150 and 200, mostly casting the shoal drop-offs with spoons. I boated a trout 83 cm, 20+lbs (trolling a 7″ yellow Bomber B-26 with 3 oz. weight). Others boated 8 trout trolling that weighed in the mid to high teens.”
